Shell GameChanger Selects Intertie as Part of EV Fast Charging Cohort

Intertie’s Innovative EV ChargePod™ Will Enable Cost-Effective and Convenient Battery-Boosted EV Fast Charging

SAUSALITO, Calif., April 29, 2020 –– Intertie Incorporated’s EV ChargePod™, one of the company’s premier clean energy technologies, was selected by the Shell GameChanger Accelerator™ Powered by NREL (GCxN) as part of its Electric Vehicle Fast Charging cohort. As a member of the GCxN cohort, Intertie will gain access to Shell and NREL’s resources, facilities, and experts to help bring the EV ChargePod™ to market.

Currently, EV fast-charging technologies pull energy from the grid via an AC connection, which incurs significant demand charges on both EV drivers and property owners, and often requires upgrades to local electrical infrastructure. Intertie’s EV ChargePod™ provides a solution to these issues: the product’s novel underground battery energy storage system and DC connection decouple the EV fast-charging process from the grid, limiting the demand charges typically associated with fast-charging technology and avoiding costly infrastructure upgrades. Further, by locating its battery system underground, the EV ChargePod™ can be installed and operated on virtually any property, features inherent safety advantages compared to above-ground battery systems, and extends battery life. Altogether, the EV ChargePod™ solves cost, convenience, and safety concerns that have historically limited the deployment of EV fast-charging solutions.

Focused on discovering and advancing emerging clean technologies with the potential to dramatically alter the future global energy landscape, the Shell GameChanger Accelerator™ Powered by NREL (GCxN) partners early-stage companies with the resources, expertise, and world class facilities available through the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and Shell’s incubator program, Shell GameChanger, to reduce technology development risk and accelerate tech to market. Cleantech start-ups are referred by NREL’s network of channel partners (cleantech incubators, accelerators, and universities) with finalists selected after reviews by technology experts at both NREL and Shell.

“We’re honored that GCxN recognized that our battery-boosted fast charging technology was a viable commercial solution to mitigate grid impacts caused by fast charging,” said Richard Mrlik, Intertie’s Founder and CEO.
